Hi everyone, just wanted to give a brief overview on events since Trevor’s last update.
A lot has changed in the last 4 months. As you would all know Trevor has left the department. I heard from a few locals around town that he is now driving trucks for KJM around Moomba and Ballera. I haven’t caught up with him yet but hope he is doing well.
Andy Causebrook has also left the department and is now working up around Katherine for the NT Parks and Wildlife service.
So in regards to staff working at Innamincka we have myself, Barrie and Jess (graduate ranger) at the moment. We are currently in the process of getting the two Innamincka based positions filled.
We have another successful working bee finished up for the year. I have included a thankyou letter and completed job list for you guys to have a look at. We are open to any comments/feedback on this years working bee and also any suggestions for next year. It really was a great effort put in by the group and the work done for the Innamincka RR and the local community was superb.
Thought I’d mention that I was asked to go to the Sydney Caravan and Camping Show in April representing DEWNR. It was a great experience and very busy. A large number of people were asking about Innamincka and Coongie Lakes so I was glad to be there and give people some first hand advice.
We had Ben Sheppard from Rural Solutions come up again to spray weeds and document in our weed management plan. He concentrated on the Acacia farnesiana around Policeman’s Dam and Noogoora Burr up around the Cordillo entrance. We are hoping to have the funds to get him up again early next year.
The campground redevelopment is ongoing but we are happy to say that Kings Site and Ski Beach are both completed and ticked off the list thanks to the group’s efforts at the working bee.
As I’m writing this the place is the busiest I’ve seen for a long time. Everyone is on the return journey from the Birdsville races so the line up at the Trading Post is massive. Barrie and myself got up here yesterday so it’s about time to go and clean the dunnies and check passes. Look forward to seeing you all in the near future and apologies for not being able to make it to meeting.
